Days 2 & 3 Button Bay to Westport NY and Westport to Cumberland Bay (Plattsburgh)

What a difference a day makes.  The team rode 26 miles or so yesterday, but more than half of that was in the pouring rain.  Miss Brynne and her daughter joined us for the first leg of our journey.

Fortunately, we ended our riding before lunch and had a wonderful place to watch the rain come down while we got dry.  Yesterday and last night we were at the summer camp of Stephanie Chestnut's family.  We gathered on the large porch and played games, laughed, took naps, talked and laughed some more.  By late afternoon the sun was out and a few people ventured out onto the lake.

Last night Stephanie's father, John, grilled up some delicious burgers and hot dogs for everyone.  In the early evening we built a fire by the lake and roasted marshmallows for smores or just for eating.  As always, there was the usual debate about whether to burn them black or slow roast them brown.   WAIT...I almost forgot the impromptu wedding last night!!!

Today was as much of a contrast as possible.  Full sun, hot and a total of 54 miles in the saddle!!  The kids were amazing.  Ms. Keefer found a great spot for lunch where some cooled off in a small river or stream while others played games with a miniature ball Andrew found along the way.  We were on the lookout for ice cream all along the way, finally stopping at a Stewarts in Plattsburgh just 4 miles from camp.  As we devoured mint chip, brownie cookie sundae, fireworks, and sherbet freezes, the forecasted afternoon storms came quickly from the west.  We hunkered down inside for a little game of UNO while it poured for about 20 minutes.

Tomorrow looks like it will be another gorgeous biking day.  We will sleep in a little and then head north to cross back into Vermont and land at Sarah Stearns's camp in Swanton.
