THURSDAY, JUNE 21--CROSSING THE BORDER

Leaving Lakeview Campground

Today was our longest day of riding so far – 69 miles – but fortunately the total downhill was more than the total uphill.   Everyone loved the mostly downhill ride to Montgomery Center where Emily and Doc found a park for our first water/snack stop.  They’ve installed fun playground equipment since I last stopped there 8 years ago with my first bike group headed home from Montreal to Bennington.

Next we regrouped just before the border and headed up the hill past the US station to the Canadian stop.

We had to ride to the window one at a time to present our individual documentation.  As we waited, Mr. Bardos handed out his homemade Canadian Flag stickers J

The lunch stop location in Sutton was provided by a wonderful bike shop in downtown...many picnic tables and friendly people.

The best part of today’s ride (other than the lack of Vermont mountains to climb) was getting to the Velo Quebec bike trails.  AMAZING to be off the roads, still on pavement and headed through the woods all the way to the national park we called home for about 15 hours.
